GrowSmart names new director

GrowSmart Maine, a Portland-based nonprofit that focuses on sustainable growth and development, has hired a new executive director.

Nancy Smith will assume the post in early May, filling a spot left vacant when GrowSmart co-founder Alan Caron resigned last June, according to a press release from GrowSmart. Smith currently operates Snafu Acres Dairy Farm in Monmouth and is a Maine legislator. A licensed forester, she serves as House chair of the Business, Research and Economic Development Committee, and serves on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.

Maggie Drummond, the organization's former advocacy director, has been serving as interim director.
