GrowSmart to manage Standish sprawl

GrowSmart Maine, an anti-sprawl organization in Yarmouth, plans to help the Cumberland County town of Standish implement a new comprehensive plan to better control its rapid growth.

The partnership has been designed to demonstrate to communities across Maine how to manage sprawl in the face of intense development pressure, the Portland Press Herald reported. GrowSmart Maine plans to work with eight to 10 other organizations, each with its own specialty, to help the rural town plot its future.

The arrangement will provide Standish with resources estimated to be worth between $80,000 and $100,000, according to the paper.
