Guv to sign base reuse bill

A bill expected to boost efforts to redevelop the Brunswick Naval Air Station will be signed by the governor today.

Passed earlier this month by the legislative session after extensive committee review, the bill establishes a state fund to support the reuse of the base's air field as a civilian airport, according to The Times Record. The measure also reinvests 25% of state income taxes paid by employees of businesses opening on base property to facility management costs, with another 25% being used to help fund the operation of Southern Maine Community College's proposed campus on the base.

After the ceremonial signing today, the law becomes effective July 12, according to the Associated Press.
