Hack targets state park pass holders

The state's Department of Conservation is warning that a security breach could have exposed the credit card information of state park pass buyers.

Maryland-based InfoSpherix, the vendor who handles online purchases of state park passes, told the department that a malware attack potentially exposed credit card information of people who purchased passes last year from March 21 to Dec. 22, The Associated Press reported. State officials learned of the problem last month, but announced the breach yesterday. Notices were sent to 970 cardholders in Maine, but no one has reported suspicious activity. The breach could possibly affect cardholders in other states, the company told state officials.

Secretary of State Charlie Summers told MaineToday Media that the state's website, www.maine.gov, is secure and users shouldn't worry about their personal information being compromised.
