Portland’s Hadlock Field, home of the Portland Sea Dogs baseball team, has made it to the big leagues of minor league ballparks.
In a list of the top 10 minor league ballparks published on Thursday, Baseball America puts Hadlock at No. 8.
“The rules were simple: In all of your travels, which park would you be most likely to return to if you were fan?” it writes. “The answers were varied — some big names made the list for the reasons you might expect, and some smaller parks made the list for reasons you might not.”
No points or grades were assigned to the chosen venues, only the reasons for their inclusion in the top 10.
“Built in 1994, Hadlock Field has stood the test of time as one of the jewels of the minors,” the trade publication says in its write-up. “The park has earned so much acclaim that broadcasters and executives in 2016 named Portland the best road city in the minor leagues.”
The publication compiled the list after surveying broadcasters and scouts across the country.
Slugger The Sea Dog, mascot and director of fun for the Portland Sea Dogs as per his Twitter profile, was not immediately available for comment.
The Sea Dogs play at home this Friday, Saturday and Sunday against the Reading Fightin’ Phils, and host the Trenton Thunder on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
