Developers of a planned wind farm in northern Hancock County said they expect to start commercial operations in late 2020.
Fengate Asset Management and Longroad Energy Partners, the developers, on Tuesday unveiled the timetable along with a co-financing and development partnership for a 22-turbine, 72.6 MW facility in the towns of Eastbrook and Osborn. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is reviewing the application.
In a joint news release, they said they expect to receive notice to go ahead with the so-called Weaver project in mid-2019 with a commercial operation date in late 2020, for what they tout as a “new and significant source of renewable energy in Maine.”
A similar facility of 23 turbines and 75.9 MW had been proposed by First Wind and then by SunEdison, which withdrew the application in 2015, according to Maine Public. It also reported that the current developer, whose top management team is made up of former First Wind executives, bought the project development rights out of SunEdison’s 2016 bankruptcy.
Maine regulators accepted the latest application as complete on Nov. 13, according to the DEP’s website, which also includes information on how to submit comments.
Fengate is a leading investment firm focused on infrastructure, private equity and real estate, while Longroad Energy Partners’ principals have significant experience in the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy assets across the United States.
“Fengate is very pleased to partner with LEP to further expand our renewable energy investments in the United States,” said Fengate’s Greg Calhoun in Tuesday’s announcement. “This investment will build and provide a new source of clean, reliable energy for Maine, in partnership with the most experienced and accomplished wind energy developer in the state.”
Charles Spiliotis, of Longroad Energy Partners, added: “We are very happy to be working together with Fengate on this important project. As we looked to the market for financing partners, their experience and team were impressive and ready to take on all the challenges that developing wind in Maine can bring.”
