Hannaford buys Hampden grocery store

Scarborough-based Hannaford Bros. Co. has completed a deal to buy a grocery store in Hampden for an undisclosed sum.

Edwards Family Shop ‘n Save will now become a Hannaford store, according to the Bangor Daily News. Owner Dana Edwards bought the store, formerly Graves Supermarket, from Hannaford five years ago, but said the decision to sell it back was in the best interest of his family and the store. A Hannaford spokesman said the Hampden store's customers and 80 full- and part-time employees should not notice many differences as it transitions to new ownership.

The Edwards family plans to retain ownership of grocery stores in Dover-Foxcroft and Unity, according to the paper. Hannaford owns 175 grocery stores in New England and parts of New York.
