A Harpswell woman has pleaded guilty to allegations that she embezzled $80,000 from the Lewiston Ramada Inn while working as a bookkeeper there.
The Bangor Daily News reported Carrie Richardson, 38, pleaded guilty to Class B felony theft by unauthorized taking and that prosecutors will seek a three-year jail sentence at a hearing Nov. 27.
At the time of her arrest, Richardson was also wanted by two California police agencies. The Escondido Police Department issued a warrant for Richardson's arrest on charges of embezzling as much as $100,000 from the Escondido Pop Warner Football league, for which she was treasurer for three years. The San Diego Sheriff's Department also suspects Richardson of embezzling around $45,000 at the North County Yamaha Shop in San Marcos, Calif., where she formerly worked.
The paper reported California officials had asked for Maine to impose conditions on Richardson’s sentence that would require her to surrender herself to law enforcement officials in California. Androscoggin County Deputy District Attorney Andrew Robinson told the paper his office did not agree to that request.
