Harris Golf buys beleaguered Bath club
A local investor group led by the Harris family has purchased the ailing Bath Country Club for $1.395 million. Harris Golf plans to rename it the Bath Golf Club.
Operations under the new ownership will begin today, according to a press release. The investor group collectively raised the money to purchase the club instead of taking out a mortgage. Harris Management Inc. will be in charge of all day-to-day operations, and has hired people to manage the clubhouse and oversee course restoration and maintenance. The 18-hole course was established in 1932 by Wayne Stiles.
Savings Bank of Maine in April 2010 foreclosed on the country club and then bought it at an auction for $1.95 million because there were no other bidders. It appointed a trustee to oversee operations while in foreclosure, who initially planned to sell it to former owners Shawn Arsenault and Jason Marco. However, the two men were let go in September 2010, and the bank appointed a new manager from its asset management group to run the facility.
Harris Golf and its affiliates are the owners/operators of eight other facilities throughout Maine, including Sunday River Golf Club in Newry.
