Time Warner customers lose WMTW
A dispute between Time Warner Cable and Hearst Television has left southern Maine Time Warner subscribers without access to WMTW-8, a Portland-based ABC affiliate.
Time Warner dropped the channel Tuesday after an agreement between it and Hearst, parent company of WMTW, expired at the end of the day Monday, according to the Portland Press Herald. Time Warner claims Hearst is requesting a 300% increase in the money Time Warner pays to air its 13 channels nationwide. In a statement, WMTW said the 300% increase is inaccurate, and that Hearst is requesting "a reasonable fee relative to what [Time Warner] pays for other significantly less popular channels." So far, the two companies have failed to reach an agreement on terms for a new carriage agreement, and it's unclear when the issue will be resolved.
Time Warner has more than 360,000 subscribers, many of whom are in southern Maine.
