Portland's Head Games salon is teaming up with a New Hampshire-based yoga and fitness studio in a long-planned effort to expand its customer base.
In March, Rasamaya, a yoga, Pilates and barre "movement studio" with locations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts will open its first Maine location at 116 Free St., sharing space with the salon.
Head Games owner Allana York says she hopes the expansion will provide mutual benefits for both businesses and broaden the customer base for the salon opened in 2000.
"A lot of our clients take these classes at other places, so we're hoping that we'll have a bunch of new students coming in," York says.
The partnership is a boon to Rasamaya, which York says will now share the salon's list of 10,000 clients.
"We're excited because we've been waiting for this exact person with this exact plan and we have 10,000 clients in our database we'll be able to share with her," York says.
Such a partnership has been in the works for years, according to York. Head Games expanded four years ago with hopes of folding a fitness business into the mix, but the space sat vacant after the initial partner folded.
Rasamaya plans to hold over 30 classes a week at the new location. That the company has formed similar partnerships before, York says, helped her decision in partnering with the company.
"I think it's just going to be a phenomenal success because we are now working with someone who has done this twice successfully before," York says.
