In terms of its desirability for female business owners, Maine comes in at No. 22 overall in new state rankings and at No. 10 in the clout department.
The scorecard, posted by FitSmallBusiness, is based on six criteria, including the percentage of women-owned firms in each state, the number of new firms opened per day, and women-owned firms’ influence on the economy, described as clout.
Maine comes in No. 22 on the list, with 30.14% of women-owned firms and 17.8% of women-owned firms with paid employees.
It was found to be 10th best in clout, based on the number, revenue and employment growth of women-owned firms from 2007 to 2016.
Georgia and Florida were No. 1 and No. 2 overall, respectively, while Massachusetts was near the bottom at No. 46, followed by New Hampshire at No. 47, Connecticut at No. 48, Vermont at No. 49 and Nebraska dead last.
FitSmall Business says on its site that it has a rapidly growing readership of one million small business owners.
