Consumers for Affordable Health Care names its new director
Consumers for Affordable Health Care announced the appointment of Ann L. Woloson as the Augusta-base nonprofit organization’s next executive director.
She is scheduled to assume the position on Feb. 12.
“We are thrilled to have Ann Woloson join CAHC as its leader, championing the organization’s mission of improving access to affordable and quality health care for all people in Maine,” Dr. Kolawole Bankole, chairman of the board of directors, said in a news release. “Ann has a record of achievements in advocating and ensuring justice and equality of access to health and social services for all people. We are confident that Ann’s experience, knowledge, and integrity are a great match for CAHC’s work, staff and partners.”
Bankole said the organization’s board will work with Woloson “to advance Consumers for Affordable Health Care’s mission in the state, and to vigorously spread the vision of an improved health system that provides coverage, access and quality, affordable care to all.”
‘Important time’ for health care
Woloson has worked most recently as a policy analyst with Maine Equal Justice Partners, where her work focused on preserving and expanding access to health care through Maine’s Medicaid program, and coverage options available through the Affordable Care Act. She also worked to preserve public benefits for Maine’s older Mainers, families with children, people with disabilities and many other Maine people who depend on vital programs to meet basic needs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Woloson said it was “an important time” for health care advocates.
“It’s clear Maine voices are as important as ever as we all work together at the state and federal level to preserve and improve access to affordable health care,” she said. “Mainers have spoken loud and clear — first as part of effort to preserve health coverage for the millions who have gained access through the Affordable Care Act, and most recently at the polls this past November when they voted to expand Maine’s Medicaid Program. I am proud of the people of Maine and look forward to continuing my work with consumers, policy makers, health care providers and other stakeholders in my new role with Consumers for Affordable Health Care.”
Veteran in shaping health care policy
Prior to her work at Maine Equal Justice Partners, Woloson was executive director of Prescription Policy Choices, a nonprofit public policy organization with the goal of reducing the prescription drug costs in Maine and the US. She previously served as chief of staff for Maine’s Senate Majority Office, developing broad expertise in policies related to health care, health and human services issues, and the state budget.
As senior health policy analyst for Consumers for Affordable Health Care and health care project director for Maine Children’s Alliance, she advocated for improved access to health care for all Maine people and helped to create the Maine Oral Health Coalition.
Earlier in her career, Woloson worked as a policy writer and provider relations specialist for Maine’s state Medicaid program and served as a nutrition counselor for Maine’s Women, Infants and Children Program.
