Denovo LLC, the firm behind the recent restoration of the Colonial Inn in Ogunquit, has revealed plans to convert the historic building at 749 Congress St. into a hotel, spa and eatery, in addition to adding seven, four-story townhouses behind the building.
The Portland Press Herald spoke to the lead of the project, Nathan Delois, about the plans for the $3.2 million redevelopment that will see the former Hay and Peabody Funeral Home, which was built in 1881, converted into a 15-room hotel, a spa and a 35-seat restaurant.
The proposal still needs to get the green light from the city of Portland, with the Planning Board holding a public hearing on Tuesday and the Historic Preservation Board set to hold a second workshop for the proposal on Wednesday. Delois told the Press Herald that he hopes that the project will be completed by next spring.
