Managers of Hollywood Slots racino in Bangor are talking with lawmakers about potential legislation that would allow table games at the complex, making it a full-service casino to draw more business.
Racino manager Jon Johnson told Maine Public Broadcasting Network that racino owner Penn National Gaming of Wyomissing, Pa., hopes a bill can be introduced in the next legislative session. To prepare for that possibility, Bangor city attorney Norman Heitmann plans to attend a National Gaming Convention in Las Vegas to learn how table games affect slot machine revenues and how other states tax the games, according to MPBN.
The city of Bangor receives 3% of the revenue generated from slot machines; a provision of the agreement between the city and Penn National states that the city can negotiate percentages on any new revenue generated by other gaming, according to the news report. Bangor already received $6.7 million from slot revenue, which it has set aside to build a new auditorium and civic center.
