Home sales drop 24%, while price rises

Home sales in Maine fell nearly 24% in November, while the median sales price rose almost 4%.

A total of 781 existing single-family homes were sold last month, a 23.8% drop compared with November 2009, according to a press release from the Maine Real Estate Information System Inc. The median sales price, however, rose 3.66% to $170,000. For the three months from September to November, homes sales in the state have fallen 24.8% compared with the same period last year, while the median sales price has increased 2.4%.

In the Northeast, homes sales decreased 33%, while the median price rose 9.2% to $242,500. Nationally, sales dropped 27.3%, and prices inched up 1.2% to $171,300.
