The new owner of the former Jordan's Meats plant in Portland has submitted a proposal to turn it into a hotel, restaurant and condos.
Old Port Hospitality LLC, which bought the property earlier this month, has filed with the city and state plans for a $15 million project that would include a 122-room Hampton Inn, a 180-seat restaurant and 12 condo units, according to the Portland Press Herald. Principals Mark Woglom and Greg Kirsch told the paper they hoped to begin building in the spring and open the hotel and restaurant by the start of the 2011 tourism season. The company has lined up financing but would not disclose the name of the small commercial bank backing it, and has also been granted franchise rights for the Hampton Inn.
When they bought the plant on Feb. 1, Woglom and Kirsch -- who are also executives at Opeechee Construction in New Hampshire -- said they had no firm plans nor a timeline for the project, saying "it may take some time" due to the economic climate.
