House gives final OK to minimum wage bill

As Maine's House of Representatives gave final approval Tuesday to a bill that would raise the state's minimum wage to $9 by 2016, Gov. Paul LePage remains mum on whether he plans to veto it.

The Associated Press reported that the bill now goes for a final vote in the Senate, where it received initial approval.

LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett said the governor is waiting until the bill hits his desk to make a decision whether to veto it.

During hearings last month, representatives from his administration's labor department testified against the bill, which would raise the state's minimum wage by 50 cents annually until 2016 and thereafter pegs the minimum wage to inflation.
