Hurricane Matthew spurs rise in gas prices

Gas prices in Maine continue to be on the rise, as the average price for a gallon of gas rose by three cents to $2.26.

In the week ending Tuesday morning, the average national price for a gallon of gas dropped by a single penny to $2.25, according to the price-tracking website Gasbuddy.

The $2.26 statewide average in Maine is higher than New Hampshire's $2.17, but lower than Vermont's $2.28.

“In addition to crude oil prices rising, some areas of the country dealt with additional problems, including refinery outages in the Great Lakes and Hurricane Matthew in the Southeast,” Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said in a release. “Average gas prices spiked 11 cents in Indiana, 10 cents in Michigan, 9 cents in Missouri, 8 cents in West Virginia, 7 cents in Ohio and 6 cents in Florida versus last week.”
