Hussey Seating Co. on Thursday gave its chief financial officer an additional job, as president.
The North Berwick-based seating manufacturer said Brian Deveaux will begin his new duties on July 1.
Hussey's current president and CEO, Gary Merrill, will remain as CEO. Merrill has held both roles since 2016 and was the first non-family member to hold these roles.
“This is an important step forward in our company’s history,” said Letitia Hussey Beauregard, Hussey Seating Co. board chair and sixth-generation family shareholder, in a news release.
“Gary’s leadership over the past six years has led to record growth for our business. With Brian leading day-to-day operations and Gary providing strategic oversight, we expect to flourish even more under these two dynamic leaders. The board and the entire Hussey family fully support this transition and welcome Brian to his new role."
Deveaux also will retain his role as CFO, which he began in 2017, overseeing all financial operations and playing a critical role in developing and executing the company’s strategic objectives.
“The Hussey family cares deeply for all the employees of Hussey Seating Co. and the legacy that generations of employees have built for almost two centuries. It is truly an honor that they, along with Gary, have entrusted me with this leadership opportunity,” Deveaux said.
Prior to joining Hussey Seating, Deveaux was a partner and co-founder of Leaders LLC, a Portland-based advisory firm that specialized in advising family businesses in strategic transactions.
Prior to forming Leaders, he served as chief operating officer of a surgical instrument manufacturer, Seabrook International, and held management positions in operations, planning, and inventory control at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works.
He graduated from Bowdoin College with degrees in math and economics.
Hussey Seating designs and manufactures seating for the sports and entertainment, education, e-sports and performing arts markets. Founded in 1835, the sixth- and seventh-generation family-owned business began with roots in steel fabrication to provide seating for major venues such as the MGM Theater in Las Vegas.
