Husson University in Bangor announced Saturday the launch of the public portion of a capital campaign to raise $30 million to increase scholarships, grow the university’s endowment and construct a new building for the College of Business.
The university has already raised more than $16 million for the comprehensive campaign, the first in its 117-year history, according to a Husson press release about the announcement.
The proposed building for the College of Business, the largest business school in Maine, will combined business education with science, technology, engineering and math opportunities, the release said. The $16.5 million fundraising goal for the building includes $3 million for an endowment devoted to technology and innovation.
“With this campaign, we accept the challenge to be the catalyst responsible for the success of our students and the economic future of our state,” Husson University President Robert A. Clark said in a statement. “There is no greater calling for any institution than the transformation of students’ lives and the education of our future leaders.”
The new business school building will help it meet the needs of a growing student population, College of Business Dean Marie Hansen said in a statement. Last year, enrollment at the business school grew by more 3.2%.
