iBec's McKinnell wins entrepreneur award

Becky McKinnell, president and founder of iBec Creative in Portland, was honored in New York City on Friday with an international business award.

McKinnell, who launched the design company in 2006, won a Stevie Award for Women in Business in the category of Best Young Entrepreneur, according to a press release. She is the first person from Maine to win a Stevie Award for Women in Business since the program began in 2004. The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives and entrepreneurs, and are one of four Stevie Awards programs.

McKinnell received the award for her company's substantial growth over the past year, her community service work and other achievements as a young entrepreneur. She beat out four other entrepreneurs from the United States, the United Kingdom and India.

More than 1,300 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 75 categories.
