Idexx Laboratories celebrated the completion of its new $35 million expansion in Westbrook that has already spurred the creation of 240 new jobs.
The Westbrook-based company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 107,700-square-foot, three-story Synergy Center on Friday morning, the company announced. Gov. Paul LePage, US. Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree and other officials were present.
Idexx broke ground on the building project in April 2012 — a project that supported 60 area contractors and provided jobs to approximately 450 workers, the company said. With capacity to support 300 employees, Idexx has already hired 240 to fill the center’s open workspaces.
The construction of Idexx’s new building was contingent on an agreement it reached with Pike Industries in 2010 to place additional regulations on Pike’s neighboring quarry. Maine’s highest court denied an appeal by neighboring Smiling Hill Farms this week to include a larger buffer zone between its property and Pike’s quarry.
