If you missed the Mainebiz SymposiumÂ…

Business leaders and economic development specialists yesterday gathered in Lewiston at a symposium hosted by Mainebiz and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network to discuss pessimism in Maine's business community, its root causes and whether it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The nine panelists -- including Dick Lucas, president of KeyBank in Maine; Tanya Pereira, Brewer's economic development specialist; Alan Caron, president of GrowSmart Maine; and Mike Hurley, a serial entrepreneur and Belfast's mayor, among others -- offered insightful comments about the possible causes of pessimism in Maine's business community (the current generation of Maine business leaders have lived through some tough economic times and are still grouchy) and what needs to be done about it (Lucas said Maine's business leaders need to get more involved in state and local politics).

If you missed the first annual Mainebiz Symposium, portions of the panel discussions will be broadcast by MPBN in the coming days and Mainebiz will be highlighting excerpts of the discussion in an upcoming issue of Mainebiz.
