Norton Financial Services in Cumberland Foreside hired Matt Chapman as investment assistant.

Scott Simons Architects in Portland hired Seth King as an architectural designer.

OUT Maine, an organization in Camden that supports rural LGBTQ youth, hired Jennifer Temple as development and communications coordinator. Temple was co-owner of Clean Bee Laundry in Camden.

Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor hired Kirk Round as an orthodontist at its Dental Center in Bangor and Mary Alice Walker joined the medical staff of Brewer Medical Center. Round previously provided orthodontic services at Kids Dental in Windsor, Conn., while Walker served at Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and Northern Idaho.

Maine Maritime Museum in Bath hired Anne Witty as chief curator. Previously, Witty served as assistant curator of the Peary-MacMillan Museum at Bowdoin College.

F.L.Putnam Investment Management Co. in Portland hired Abby Psyhogeos as senior vice president and private client advisor. Psyhogeos was president and managing director, portfolio strategy for Bainco International Investors in Boston.

The Portland Water District hired Carrie Lewis as general manager. Lewis was previously superintendent of Milwaukee Water Works.

L.S. Robinson Co., an insurance company in Southwest Harbor, hired Lucas Dunbar as a member of its business insurance division.

Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, hired Jaqueline Costello and Katrina Lyons as staff members in the tax practice, Colby Marvin as a staff member in the risk and business advisory practice and Kiara Gadbois as a receptionist in the operations department.

EMMC in Bangor hired Angela Tsai as an otolaryngologist at Eastern Maine Otolaryngology. Tsai is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and has a special interest in Mohs defect reconstruction, a procedure that repairs the skin after a cancerous area is removed.

HistoryIT, a digital history company in Portland, hired Emily Cain as chief strategy officer. Cain is a former state legislator and caucus leader in Maine.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Joseph Noonan Jr. as an orthopedic surgeon at Franklin Health Orthopaedics through a specialty service partnership with MaineGeneral Orthopaedics. Noonan previously provided health care at Crossroads Orthopedic Sub Specialists LLC in Waterford, Conn. The hospital also hired Deborah Burchfield as a nurse practitioner at Franklin Health. Burchfield is based at Franklin Health Internal Medicine, but will also provide care at Livermore Falls Family Practice and other primary care practices as needed.

The Jackson Laboratory, an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution in Bar Harbor, hired Jason Irwin as controller, Kate Homer as senior manager of financial planning and analysis and Se-Jin Lee as a professor at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, Conn. Irwin most recently served as controller at Central Vermont Medical Center; Homer was senior manager of financial analysis at SomaLogic Inc.; and Lee, who will join the lab in August and will also serve as presidential distinguished professor at UConn School of Medicine, is currently with The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

PDT Architects in Portland hired Ariana Melzer as an interior designer. Melzer was most recently with Eider Construction in Scarborough.

Magnusson Balfour Commercial & Business Brokers in Portland hired Jeffrey Lapointe and Dustin Boutin as sales agents.

Cardente Real Estate in Portland hired Marnie Coleman as director of operations. Coleman most recently was assistant market center administrator at Keller Williams Realty of Greater Portland.

WMTW in Portland hired Lauren Bradley as a weekend evening anchor. Bradley was with WJCL in Savannah, Ga.

Promotions

Gibson LeClair LLC, a public accounting firm in Augusta, has promoted Scott Nivus to partner as of Jan. 1. He joined Gibson LeClair as a CPA in 2009 and has worked closely with individual and business clients as well as the firm's nonprofit audit engagements.

Mainestream Media in Scarborough promoted Hayley Smith-Rose to assistant program director of WHTP Hot 104.7 in Portland. Smith-Rose also serves as promotion director and an on-air personality.

Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, promoted Chelsea Reynolds and James Boissonneault to senior managers in the audit practice, Griffin Hardy to senior manager in the tax practice, Courtney Francis to supervising senior in the tax practice, Zachary Porter to senior in the risk and business advisory practice, Wade Gallon to senior in the health care consulting practice, Megan Elliott and Joseph Begin to seniors in the tax practice and Christopher Allinson to help desk analyst III in the operations department.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, announced that David Kallin, Matthew Serge and Tom Trenholm became shareholders of the firm. Kallin is the leader for the firm's Land Use and Conservation practice, Serge is a member of the municipal practice and Trenholm is a member of the labor and employment practice.

Delta Ambulance in Waterville promoted Chris Mitchell to field supervisor.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, elected Kyle MacDonald as partner. MacDonald's practice is based in Boston and focuses on all areas of family law litigation and negotiation, including complex divorce, modification, paternity, custody, international and domestic removal cases as well as abuse prevention orders and pre- and postnuptial agreements.

GWI, a telephone and high speed Internet provider in Biddeford, promoted Christina Painter to controller. Painter was previously a junior staff accountant.

Broadreach Public Relations in Portland promoted Jason Sulham to vice president. Sulham was previously a senior strategist.

Pine Tree Society, an organization in Bath serving Maine children and adults with disabilities, promoted Paula Schrank to team leader for its adult case management team and Mike Bell to team leader for its children's case management team.

Maine Medical Center in Portland promoted Joel Botler to senior vice president and chief medical officer. Botler has held the two roles on an interim basis since January 2016.

U.S. Cellular promoted Jake Albee to retail sales manager for its Bangor Mall store. Albee was previously a retail wireless consultant.

Appointments

Gov. Paul LePage nominated Michael Duddy, an attorney at Kelly, Remmel & Zimmerman in Portland, to serve as a judge on the Maine District Court. Duddy's practice primarily focuses on health care, employment, immigration and professional liability law.

The Biddeford+Saco Chamber of Commerce+Industry elected the following board members: Jen Hayes, program director at Oceanwood Camp & Conference Center; Bridget Conley, general manager at Hampton Inn Saco; Lori Cote, practice manager at Southern Maine Health Care; and Daniel Philbrick, director at University College. The organization also announced its executive committee will include chair, Donald Furman, Furman Gregory LLC; first vice chair, Stephen St Cyr, Stephen P. Consigli Construction Co. Inc. said that Matt Tonello, director of Maine operations, has been named to the Maine State Chamber of Commerce board.

Friends of Casco Bay, a nonprofit in South Portland working to improve and protect the environmental health of Casco Bay, elected Malcolm Poole, president of the Poole Group of Cos., to its board of directors. The organization also announced that Kim Anania, AJ Curran, Paul Gregory, Tollef Olson, Derek Pelletier and Joan Benoit Samuelson were re-elected to three-year terms on the board.

Portland Buy Local added Anthony Zeli, owner of West End News, to its board of directors.

Aroostook Aspirations Initiative selected Abigail Clair as scholar selection committee chair. Clair, an emergency room social worker at The Aroostook Medical Center, has been a member of the committee since the organization began awarding scholarships in 2014.

YWCA Central Maine in Lewiston announced that Esther Yoo, an attorney at Berman & Simmons in Lewiston, joined its board of directors.

Clark Insurance in Portland elected Lee Ramsdell to its board of directors. Ramsdell is senior vice president of the agency as well as a stockholder.

The Maine Public Relations Council in Portland announced leadership changes and new board members for 2017. Linda Varrell, president and CEO of Broadreach Public Relations, was elected president; Kristen Levesque, principal of Kristen Levesque Public Relations & Marketing, vice president; Paul Badeau, marketing manager at Oxford Networks, treasurer; and Alexandra Brophy, senior marketing coordinator at Baker Newman Noyes, secretary. New board members include: Kristin Melville, Hospice of Southern Maine, nominating committee chair; Kevin Gove, Rinck Advertising, awards committee; and Marnie Grumbach, Fluent IMC, member-at-large.

Achievements

The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce selected Carrie Meo as its “Volunteer of the Year.” Meo is vice president of fixed operations and an owner of Darlings and owner of Anthony John's Day Spa.

Lipman & Katz, a law firm in Augusta, announced attorney Steve Smith received a Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating of “AV.” Smith, who handles personal injury, criminal defense and other civil litigation, received the distinction for professional ethics and legal ability.

Lyle and Jo-Ann Merrifield, owners and operators of Merrifield Farm and Sugar Shack in Gorham, received the “Commissioner's Distinguished Service Award” at the 76th annual Maine Agricultural Trades Show's commissioner's luncheon.

Jon Brockway of Westbrook, a professional truck driver for Walmart Transportation, was named a captain of the American Trucking Association's America's Road Team, a public outreach program that educates the public about highway safety.

Avesta Housing, an affordable housing provider in Portland, awarded its 2016 Mike Yandell Award for extraordinary work in the field of affordable housing to the Portland Housing Authority. The authority has been a partner in the creation of Avesta's Housing First (housing for persistently homeless individuals) developments — Logan Place, Florence House and Huston Commons.

Hanley Wood's ProSales Magazine selected Hancock Lumber as its 2017 ProSales Dealer of the Year. The award honors achievements in construction supply operations, management and innovations, as well as service to the dealer's community and to the lumber and building material industry.

Horch Roofing in Rockland earned the home service industry's Angie's List “Super Service Award.” The company received an “A” rating in overall grade, recent grade and review period grade.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, announced attorneys Christopher Little, Gavin McCarthy and Katharine Kohm co-authored a chapter on Maine Procurement Rules and Regulations in the “ABA Guide to State Procurement: a 50-State Primer on Purchasing Laws, Processes and Procedures,” which is published by the American Bar Association Section of Public Contract Law.

Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center in Windham passed a full program assessment to retain its PATH International accreditation as a Premier Accredited Center. The center had a 100% pass rate on all 96 standards reviewed covering administration and business practices, equine welfare and management, facilities management, mounted and unmounted equine assisted activities and therapeutic carriage driving.
