New hires

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston hired Steven English as vice president and director of financial services. English was most recently the community financial institution director at Cetera Investment Services in South Portland.

GrowSmart Maine in Portland hired Janet Sawyer as business development director. Sawyer was previously business development director for Piscataquis County Economic Development Council.

Sevee & Maher Engineers Inc. in Cumberland hired Nick Thompson as a field engineer.

Maine Medical Center in Portland hired Isabella Stumpf as the division director for palliative medicine and Robert Hunold as a physician in the center’s division of palliative medicine. Stumpf also serves as the director for palliative care at MaineHealth and holds a per diem faculty position at Massachusetts General Hospital while Hunold also practices as family physician and serves as the medical director for the Miles-St. Andrews Hospice Palliative Care service.

Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, a luxury property company in Portland, hired Christina Stone as a vice president. Stone will be based in the firm’s Kennebunk office.

Fontaine Family – The Real Estate Leader in Auburn hired Kelly Webb.

Sodexo, a food services and facilities management company in Portland, hired Maeve McInnis as director of its Maine Course program. The program is a statewide initiative created to prioritize serving local and sustainably harvested food at all of the company’s health care, education, government and corporate client sites in the state.

Cornerstone Financial Planning in Portland hired Carrie McCormick as client service manager. McCormick was previously a financial services associate at People’s United Bank.

Maine Water in Saco hired Michael Hall as superintendent of its Biddeford and Saco Division.

CEI 7(a) Financing LLC, a small business administration 7(a) lender in Brunswick, hired Mary Childs-Mayer as origination and relationship manager. Childs-Mayer was previously with National Development Council.

Curtis Thaxter LLC, a law firm in Portland, hired Amy Devin as a member of the firm. Devin practices in the areas of real estate, commercial and corporate law, with a focus on affordable housing and community redevelopment.

Great Works Regional Land Trust in Ogunquit hired Rhyan Romaine as director of development. Romaine was the director of resource development at York County Community College.

Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce hired Diane Norton as director of member marketing and development. Norton previously served as advertising sales manager for the chamber’s annual visitor guide.

The Trust for Public Land in Portland hired Randi Hogan as Maine director of philanthropy. Hogan was previously executive director at Playworks Maryland.

Maine Spine Surgery at Mercy in Portland announced Robert Galler joined its surgical practice. Galler was previously with the Stony Brook Medicine’s department of neurosurgery in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Gov. Paul R. LePage announced Avery Day will serve as his chief legal counsel. Previously, Day practiced in the government relations and litigation practice groups at Pierce Atwood.

Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington hired Cynthia Cronkhite as director of human resources. Cronkhite was previously manager of human resources operations, prevention and wellness at St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, hired Douglas Britton as an attorney in the firm’s real estate group. Britton was previously a partner at Drummond & Drummond LLP.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, hired Benjamin Smith as a shareholder. Smith was previously a staff attorney for the Maine Public Utilities Commission.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, hired Jamie Thompson as an email deployment administrator. Thompson was previously with HIMSS Media in Portland.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, hired Bodie Colwell and Patrick Lever as associates. Colwell practices with the firm’s bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and business restructuring group while Lever practices in its real estate group.

Sebago Technics, an engineering consulting firm in South Portland, hired Glissen Havu and Tyler Peabody as civil engineers.

Maine Medical Partners, an affiliate of Maine Medical Center, announced that Heather Emery joined MMP – Portland Pediatrics. Emery was previously a physician at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester and a clinical instructor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington named Timothy Churchill as interim CEO. Churchill, the current president and CEO of Western Maine Health in Norway, will serve as CEO of both organizations until a permanent replacement is found.

Health Affiliates Maine, a substance abuse and mental health agency in Auburn, hired Kim Morrison as a licensed master social worker.

Portside Real Estate Group in Falmouth hired Jaye Gorham, Nancy Keast and Ben Ray as agents.

Promotions

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution promoted Brian Ballute and Stephanie Paquet to vice president and DeAnn Lewis to assistant vice president. Ballute was previously an assistant treasurer, Paquet was deposit support manager and Lewis was a general bank auditor.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins promoted Annie Clark to director of communications and Christopher Knight to press secretary. Clark was press secretary and Knight was a press assistant and an aide for the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

GrowSmart Maine in Portland promoted Andrew Zarro from development director to community engagement director.

The Island Institute in Rockland promoted Eric Waters to senior vice president and CFO, Heather Deese to vice president of research and strategy and Michelle Tussing to vice president of development.

The MEMIC Group, a workers’ compensation specialist in Portland, promoted Robyn Jackson to director of claim operations. Jackson was previously unit manager of operation support.

Council on International Educational Exchange, a nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization in Portland, promoted Jill Sady to vice president and chief of staff to the president and CEO; Matthew Redman to vice president for high school study abroad, teach and TEFL; and Kathleen Goodwin to vice president for marketing and communications.

Community Credit Union in Lewiston promoted Betsy Sibley to vice president of marketing/business development. Sibley was previously marketing/business development director.

The First N.A. promoted Steven Parady to executive vice president, senior trust officer; Richard Elder to executive vice president, retail lending; Tammy Plummer to executive vice president, chief information officer; and Sarah Tolman to executive vice president, branch administration.

TIQA, a restaurant in Portland, promoted Bo Byrne to executive chef. Byrne was previously chef de cuisine.

The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland named Joseph Vitterito II as neonatology division director and medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Vitterito has been a member of the Maine Medical Center Division of Neonatology for the past seven years.

Eaton Peabody, a law firm in Bangor, announced Dan Pittman was made a shareholder. Pittman’s practice focuses on municipal finance and tax matters for businesses, tax-exempt organizations and individuals.

Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm in Portland, promoted Merrill Barter and Stanley Rose to director. Barter leads the firm’s state and local tax practice while Rose specializes in federal and state corporate and shareholder tax compliance and consulting.

St. Louis Child Development Center in Biddeford named Rebecca Toliver director. Toliver was the center’s assistant director.

Appointments

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine elected Katherine Coster as president of its board of directors and added Brian Elowe, Matthew Leonard, Tom Manning, Kenleigh Nicoletta, Ted O’Meara and Laura Young as board members. Elowe is the U.S. director of client engagement for Marsh & McLennan, Leonard is president and CEO of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, Manning is the owner and operator of the Miss Portland Diner, Nicoletta is an attorney with Brann & Isaacson, O’Meara is a corporate communications and public affairs consultant and Young is vice president of philanthropy for the Maine Community Foundation.

Day One, a South Portland agency preventing and treating adolescent substance abuse, elected the following officers to its board of directors: Dennis Carrillo, president, attorney, Law Offices of Doyle & Nelson; Douglas Cranshaw, vice president, retired; Zander Abbott, treasurer, vice president, Women & Children Service Line at Maine Medical Center; and David Mount, secretary, retired.

Elizabeth Mitchell, president and CEO of Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement in Portland, was named vice chair of a federal committee that will advise the secretary of Health and Human Services how to transform Medicare to deliver better care at lower costs.

March of Dimes in Portland announced that Zander Abbott, vice president at Maine Medical Center in Portland, was chosen as chair for the March for Babies to be held in May.

Maine Rural Partners in Farmington announced Gordon Liu was elected as board chair. Liu is marketing and operations manager for the Center for Ecological Living and Learning in Hope. In addition, Ann Schwab, an outreach and enrollment specialist at HealthReach Community Health Centers, and Henry John Bear, a Maliseet Tribal Elder and the elected Tribal Representative to the Maine Legislature, joined the board.

Sari Greene was appointed as a director of Bangor Savings Bank, the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation and trustee of the bank’s parent company, Bangor Bancorp MHC. Greene is founder of Sage Data Security in Portland.

Achievements

The Portland Water District was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.

Berman & Simmons, a law firm in Portland, was selected as a Tier 1 law firm for its core practice areas in rankings announced by U.S. News – Best Lawyers.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough named William Caron Jr. the Katherine Pope Leadership Award winner. Caron is CEO of MaineHealth.

Gorham Savings Bank selected Laura Mingione and Samantha Croteau as its 2015 Gorham’s Greatest Customer Service Award winners. Mingione is a data processing specialist and Croteau is an administrative assistant with the bank.

Tracey Falla, an occupational therapist in Cumberland, was elected president of the Maine Occupational Therapy Association.

Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport was recognized as one of the top hospitals in the state by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The assessment looked at eight surgical outcomes like collapsed lungs or accidental punctures and tears as well as at certain types of catheter and surgical infections. The center also announced the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists awarded accreditation to its NorDx Lab based on results of a recent on-site inspection.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution said that Heather Clark, assistant vice president marketing officer, received a Certified Financial Marketing Professional certificate from the American Bankers Association.

Diversion Alert, a state-funded drug prevention initiative in Houlton, was one of four programs nationwide awarded the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors’ 2015 National Exemplary Award for Innovative Substance Abuse Prevention Programs, Practices and Policies.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said Stephen Wade was a “Lawyer of the Year” award winner in the area of Product Liability Litigation in the state of Maine by U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers. Wade and Rebecca Webber, both shareholders at the firm, were also listed on the 2016 Best Lawyers in America list.

Spurwink, a nonprofit in Portland that provides behavioral health and educational services for children, adults and families, announced that Lawrence Ricci, medical director and child abuse pediatrician from the organization’s Child Abuse Program, was the recipient of the Section on Child Abuse and Neglect Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children.

Sawin Millet received the Commissioner’s Distinguished Service Award at the 75th annual Maine agricultural trades show commissioner’s luncheon. Millet is the state commissioner of administrative and financial services.

The Maine District Small Business Administration Office presented Steve Gurin, senior vice president and team lead/business banking at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, the first ever Special Thanks for Achievement Reward award.

Nancy Wolach of Casco Bay Kitchen and Baths in Saco completed National Kitchen and Bath Association, Maine Chapter Officer training.

Evergreen Home Performance in Portland received Outstanding Contributions to Energy Efficiency awards from Efficiency Maine for leadership in the Residential Energy Efficiency Program and in marketing.

Eric Kuntz, medical director of Acadia Hospital’s Pediatric Outpatient Service and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, was designated a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
