New hires

The Friends of Fort Knox hired Dean Martin as executive director of Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory. Martin recently retired from active duty U.S. Army, as a lieutenant colonel, after 24 years of service.

The Beacon at Gateway, a luxury apartment community in Scarborough, hired Amanda Peltzman as assistant property manager.

Frannie Peabody Center, an HIV/AIDS service organization in Portland, hired Belle Bocal as director of development. Bocal was previously donor engagement manager for United Way of Greater Portland.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, hired Andrea Shaw as a shareholder. Shaw, who has 15 years of experience focusing on consumer finance and bank regulatory matters, was previously vice president and senior counsel at TD Bank.

EMMC Interventional Pain Management Clinic in Bangor hired Ammar Mahmoud and Vasanth Kattalai Kailasam as physicians.

R.W. Gillespie & Associates Inc., a geotechnical engineering firm in Biddeford, hired Daniel Burgess and Serena Pape as engineers and Zach Vincent as marketing administrator.

Dream Local Digital, a digital marketing agency in Rockland, hired Thomas Tash as marketing manager. Tash previously led the marketing departments for Chimani, a Maine-based developer of national park mobile apps, and Cirrus Systems, a manufacturer of LED technology located in Saco.

United Way of Androscoggin County in Lewiston hired Brittany Myrick as director of development and marketing.

Landry/French Construction Co., a commercial contractor in Scarborough, hired Mark Purty as senior project superintendent, Mike LaPointe as a project superintendent and Brian Donovan as assistant superintendent. Purty was previously with Walsh Brothers while LaPointe and Donovan were with PC Construction.

MaineHealth in Portland announced three new hires. Alexa Dumont was hired as a business analyst, Chitrani Gunasekera was hired as a health care data analyst in its Accountable Care Organization and Victoria Hynes was hired as a program manager in its Center for Tobacco Independence.

Clark Insurance in Portland hired Jessica Doucette and Timothy Forte as business account executives in its business insurance department and Chrissy Rioux as an account manager.

Right Now Fitness in Westbrook hired Cathy Anastasio as a certified personal trainer.

Promotions

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay promoted Jennifer Cutshall to vice president for advancement. Previously, Cutshall served as director of advancement.

Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park in Winter Harbor promoted CJ Langley to chief of staff. Langley was previously executive assistant to the president.

Dietel & Partners LLC, a financial consulting firm in Yarmouth, promoted Carol Pickering to associate partner. Pickering, who joined the firm in 2009, was previously program officer.

U.S. Cellular promoted Seth Cleaves to retail sales manager in Ellsworth. Cleaves was previously a sales manager in West Lebanon, N.H.

CES Inc., a firm of engineers, environmental scientists and land surveyors in Brewer, promoted Alfred Haskell III to project manager in the firm's Engineering Division.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, promoted Alexandra Keeley to digital marketing manager. Keeley most recently served as inbound marketing team lead.

Camden National Bank promoted Stephen Matteo to senior vice president, commercial market manager. Matteo has been with the bank in various capacities for 19 years.

University Credit Union in Orono promoted Deb White-Rideout to executive vice president. White-Rideout was vice president of operations.

Down East Enterprise Inc. in Rockport promoted Lawrence Hollins to associate publisher for the publishing company and Brian Kevin to editor in chief of Down East magazine. Previously, Hollins was advertising director while Kevin was managing editor of Down East magazine.

Appointments

Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor said Stephen Thompson joined the ranks of the country's top orthopedic specialists by becoming a member of the American Orthopaedic Association. Thompson is only the fourth member in Maine to be elected to the association.

Achievements

Avesta Housing in Portland presented its annual “Core Value Awards.” Winners included: “Humanity,” Nick Kjeldgaard, resident services coordinator; “Stewardship,” Catherine Elliott, development officer; “Relationships,” Barbara Soloway, compliance and training manager; and “Quality,” Kate Cordaro, office manager. In addition, the organization also presented its “2017 Property of the Year Award” to Steeple Square in Westbrook.

Hobbs Funeral Homes in South Portland said Rachael Powers passed the Maine State Board of Funeral Services exams and is now a fully licensed funeral director. Powers was a full-time apprentice.

The city of Bangor was awarded the certificate of achievement for “Excellence in Financial Reporting” by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive financial report. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, announced its “2nd Quarter Geiger Star” winners including Becci Cayer, corporate eCommerce manager; Jennifer Gendron-Assam, web designer; Andrew Medlen, operations manager; and Bryon Newcomb, network operations manager.

U.S. News & World Report named Maine Medical Center in Portland as a “Best Regional Hospital” for the sixth consecutive year and as the best hospital in Maine in 2018-19. The hospital was recognized as “high performing” in the specialty of urology and in eight common procedures and conditions included in the annual survey of U.S. hospitals.

Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Brunswick announced that it received strong ratings for its fund management from Aeris, the independent rating and information service for community investment funds. The organization received a four-star impact management rating with Policy Plus and AA- financial strength and performance rating.

Sherree Craig, a senior account executive in the insured benefits division at Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, was awarded fellowship standing in the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, said 46 of its Maine-based attorneys were named in U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers' list of the “2019 Best Lawyers in America.” In addition, six of its attorneys were named a Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year,” an honor exclusive to their legal specialty and geographic location. The firm also said attorneys Michael Fay, Kurt Klebe and Mary McQuillen were recognized in the Chambers High Net Worth 2018 guide, Chambers and Partners' third edition of the publication specifically aimed at the international private wealth market. The firm was also recognized for its private wealth law practice.

Rudman Winchell, a law firm in Bangor, said 10 of its attorneys were named in U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers' list of the “2019 Best Lawyers in America.”

The Maine Office of Tourism's marketing campaign received a “Mercury Award” from the U.S. Travel Association for “excellence and creative accomplishments in destination marketing and inspiring the continued development of imaginative promotional programs.”

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, said 33 of its attorneys were named in U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers' list of the “2019 Best Lawyers in America.”

Epstein & O'Donovan LLP, a law firm in Portland, announced Dennis O'Donovan and Jennifer Kruszewski were named in U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers' list of the “2019 Best Lawyers in America.” In addition, Miles Hunt was named as a “Super Lawyers Rising Star” for 2018 and received the “2018 Martindale Hubbell Platinum Client Champion Award.”

Kevin Roche, CEO of ecomaine, presented on advances in fire safety and suppression at the Solid Waste Association of North America's WASTECON 2018 in Nashville, Tenn.

Dream Local Digital, a digital marketing agency in Rockland, was included in the 37th annual “Inc. 5000,” a list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. Dream Local reported 122% growth in revenue over a three-year period.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, said 33 of its Maine-based attorneys were named in U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers' list of the “2019 Best Lawyers in America.” In addition, Jeffrey Talbert, litigation, environmental; Michael Messerschmidt, labor law, management; and Sigmund Schutz, appellate practice, were named “Lawyers of the Year.”

College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor was ranked in the top 20 among the nation's colleges and universities for LGBTQ-friendly, best campus food and places where “students study the most,” according to the newest edition of the Princeton Review's student-sourced college guide, “The Best 384 Colleges.” The school also said its curriculum was ranked among the top 10 for integrating sustainability education, according to the 2018 Sustainable Campus Index, a publication featuring high-impact and innovative initiatives from colleges and universities worldwide; and was listed No. 12 on the U.S. News & World Report 2019 Best Colleges “Most Innovative Schools” list.
