New hires

Camden National Bank recently hired Nancy Robertson as retail banking officer and branch manager. Robertson, a veteran of the financial services industry for more than 35 years, will be based out of the bank's Lewiston South Avenue location.

ecomaine, a nonprofit recycling and waste-to-energy organization in Portland, recently hired Leo Maheu as environmental educator. Maheu previously worked Portland Trails, the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge and the Merryspring Nature Center.

Great Schools Partnership, a nonprofit school-support organization in Portland, recently hired Angela Hardy as a senior associate. Hardy most recently worked at Unity College as the director of the center for experiential and environmental education.

Skelton, Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, recently announced that Rebecca Webber has joined the firm as a shareholder. Webber brings two decades of experience to the firm's employment law practice.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine recently hired Mae Slevinsky as community-based mentoring manager. Slevinsky will recruit, screen, train and support mentoring relationships between adults and youth in the community.

Franklin Health Orthopaedics and Franklin Memorial Hospital recently hired Sarah Dooley as a physician assistant. Previously, Dooley saw patients at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta and in the hospital's oncology/hematology unit.

The Maine Jump, an entertainment center for children 12 and under, recently hired Mike Lawry as director of child activities at its Bangor facility. Lawry was previously the director of MyGym in Brewer.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, recently hired Michael Smith and Catherine Cosgrove. Smith, previously an associate in the New York and Boston offices of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, will practice as an associate with the firm's litigation group in the Portland office. Cosgrove, previously with Nelson Kinder Mosseau, will practice as of counsel with the firm's litigation group in the Concord, N.H., office.

The Cheney Cos. Financial Group in Damariscotta recently announced five new hires. Cheney Insurance recently added Brittany Carter to its commercial insurance division and Kate Dunstan to its personal insurance division; Newcastle Square Realty recently hired Bill Crocker and Julie Erickson; and Newcastle Square Vacation Rentals hired Olivia Genthner as a rental assistant.

Franklin Health Pediatrics in Farmington recently hired Molly Clark as a nurse practitioner. Clark previously provided patient care at the University of Maine Farmington Student Health Center.

Day One, a teen drug and alcohol abuse agency in South Portland, recently hired Carolyn Wyman as program manager, youth development services.

The ACLU of Maine recently announced three new hires. Rachel Myers Healy, who previously served as a senior communications strategist with the nationwide ACLU Center for Justice, was hired as director of communications and public education; Jill Barkley, who joined the organization as its marriage project coordinator in April, has been named public policy advocate; and Oamshri Amarasingham, previously a law clerk at the National Center for Lesbian Rights, will serve as public policy counsel.

Burgess Advertising & Marketing in Portland recently announced three hires. David Pride, previously the sales manager at the Portland Harbor Hotel, was hired as a social media/PR specialist; Leigh Russell, most recently the catering sales manager at the Double Tree Hotel, was hired as director of first impressions; and Jodi Connors, previously with The VIA Agency, was hired as client relations manager.

317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth recently hired Molly Gallagher Burk as director of development. Burk previously held positions at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Bowdoin College and Sweetser.

The Maine Health Management Coalition in Portland recently hired Tori Milan as its pathways to excellence specialist. Milan, previously with Martin's Point Health Care, will maintain the accuracy of the coalition's provider database and serve as the liaison between the Pathways to Excellence program and practices around the state seeking recognition on the coalition's public reporting website, www.getbettermaine.org.

The Portland Museum of Art recently hired Elizabeth Cartland as director of development. Cartland was previously the director of annual giving and philanthropy officer at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass.

Unum Group recently hired Matthew Royal as vice president and chief auditor. Royal, previously a director with KPMG LLP, will be based in Chattanooga, Tenn. He will be responsible for ensuring that company controls are adequate and meet regulatory requirements as well as overseeing the company's special investigative unit.

The Patient Performance Institute in Portland recently hired David Burnham as chief information officer and Lee Andrews as research director. Burnham was previously the senior director of technology at MEDCO while Andrews previously worked as an asset manager at Community Housing of Maine.

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston recently hired Catherine Buffum as vice president and commercial loan officer. Buffum, previously with TD Bank, will be based at the bank's Portland location in the Old Port.

Brann & Isaacson, a law firm in Lewiston, recently hired Michael Malloy. Previously, Malloy worked for a Lewiston-Auburn firm representing businesses and governments in Maine on various commercial, municipal and other legal issues, including immigration.

BlueTarp Financial, a trade credit and marketing services provider for the building supply industry in Portland, recently hired Will Porter as chief financial officer. Porter, who has more than 18 years of experience with both public and private companies, was most recently the CFO at Signiant, a global software provider.

CHANS Home Health Care in Brunswick recently hired Becky Rosen as director of clinical services. Rosen has more than 20 years of experience in home health and hospice programs; with progressive responsibilities in the development and oversight of Medicare certified programs, development of operational procedures, clinical policies and quality initiatives.

University Credit Union in Orono recently hired Amy Kenney as campus development officer. Kenney will be based in the Memorial Union, University of Maine branch.

GAC Chemical Corp., a chemical manufacturing, distribution and supply chain logistics company in Searsport, recently hired Jennifer Alley as its technical manager. Alley was previously an account manager for Ashland.

Cumberland Title Services in Portland recently hired Liz Hamilton as a receptionist/processor, and Bonnie Campbell as office manager and processor for the company's new branch office in Brunswick.

Pulp+Wire, marketing firm in Portland recently hired Katie Bernier as production manager. Bernier was previously a marketing specialist for Patient Advocates in Gray.

Sunnybrook Village, a retirement and assisted-living facility in Brunswick, recently hired Bob Armstrong as executive director. Armstrong brings more than 30 years of experience in assisted-living administration, policy development, advocacy and higher education.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor recently hired Debra Capilli as general accountant. Capilli was previously with the Charlotte White Center in Bangor.

Unified Technologies, a technology service provider in Portland, recently hired Matt Rancourt as controller and HR director and Fred Masciangelo as vice president of channel sales. Rancourt was previously with the American Red Cross of Maine and Masciangelo was previously the director of datacenter sales for Oxford Networks.

Promotions

TD Bank recently promoted Andrew Pease to account manager in commercial lending in Portland. Pease most recently served the bank as a credit analyst in commercial credit management.

Cheney Insurance in Damariscotta recently announced several promotions. Pam Gaeth was promoted to vice president of administrative services; Susan Dale is now vice president of human resources and marketing services; Rosemary Campbell was promoted to vice president of personal insurance services; and Peggy McLoon was promoted to manager of the commercial insurance division. In addition, Paula Martineau was transferred from personal insurance to the commercial insurance division.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, recently announced that Sarah Coburn was elected partner. Coburn joined the firm's private clients group in 2008.

Clyde Bergemann Auburn, the air-gas handling division of Clyde Bergemann Power Group Americas in Auburn, recently named Michael Sellinger president. Sellinger was previously the company's vice president.

Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette recently announced that Dawn Self-Cooper was promoted to manager at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale. Self-Cooper has more than 20 years of experience working for the Department of Labor.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland recently announced the election of Karen Aframe and Joshua Silver as shareholders. Aframe is a member of the firm's labor and employment practice group based in Manchester, N.H. Silver is a member of the firm's business law practice group and data security team and is based in Portland.

PC Construction in Portland recently announced it will promote Kevin McCarthy to president and CEO, effective April 1. McCarthy, currently the company's executive vice president, will replace Peter Bernhardt when he steps away from the day-to-day leadership of the company.

Oxford Networks, a technology service provider in Lewiston, recently promoted Matt Jancovic to executive vice president of sales and marketing. Previously Jancovic served as the vice president of marketing.

Pierce Atwood LLP, a Portland law firm, recently announced that Michael Daly, Michele Kenney, Lucus Ritchie and Daniel Stevens have joined the partnership. Daly joined the firm as an associate in the litigation and admiralty and maritime practice groups in 2009; Kenney joined the firm as an associate in the litigation practice group in 2008; Ritchie has been a member of the litigation practice group since joining the firm in 2005; and Stevens has been with the firm since 1988, first as an associate and subsequently as counsel.

Appointments

The Human Resources Association of Southern Maine recently elected its board of directors for 2013: president, Lisa Noonan, chief operating officer of The Park Danforth in Portland; president elect, Catharine MacLaren, chief operating officer of Workforce Performance Solutions in Portland; treasurer, Michele Whidden, HR manager for Parker Hannifin's Nichols Portland Division; and secretary, Michelle Pritchard, account manager with the Holden Agency Employee Benefits Solutions in Portland.

The Institute for Humane Education in Surry recently elected three new board members to serve two-year terms: Tony Scucci, senior governance associate at BoardSource; Neil Hornish, co-founder and director of education of the Compassionate Living Project; and Elizabeth Crawford, faculty member in the department of elementary, middle level and literacy education at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

The Patient Performance Institute in Portland recently named Bonnie Deveau and Eileen Skinner as the Maine members of its 2013 advisory board. Deveau is the vice president, quality and risk management at Goodall Hospital while Skinner is the CEO of Mercy Health System of Maine.

The Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce recently appointed Carolyn Krahn as interim executive director. Krahn had been the member relations manager for the chamber.

United Way of Greater Portland recently announced the election of the following to its board of directors: Emmanuel Caulk, superintendent of schools, Portland Public Schools; Anne Dalton, chief officer for strategic initiatives, Association of Junior Leagues International; Lelia DeAndrade, director of grantmaking services, Maine Community Foundation; and Diane Garofalo, senior vice president for benefit operations, Unum.

The Landing School, a post-secondary marine industry institution in Arundel, recently announced the appointment of four new trustees to its board of directors: Susan Swanton, executive director, Maine Marine Trades Association; Chris Wolfe, president, MNR Technology; Glen Shivel, owner, Callinectes Boatworks LLC; and Ulf Heide, founder, TMC Vibration Control.

Maine Huts & Trails recently appointed Charlie Woodworth to executive director. Woodworth, a past member of the Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Center's Trail Committee, has more than 20 years of entrepreneurship and management experience.

Spectrum Generations recently added Stacy Frizzle to its Southern Midcoast Maine Community Center's Local Advisory Council located in Topsham. Frizzle is the executive director of People Plus, a nonprofit organization in Brunswick that supports an engaged, healthy and independent life for older adults, while joining with others to build community for all ages.

Accolades

The University of Southern Maine was recently ranked the No. 1 Safest in Maine by StateUniversity.com. The organization also ranked the university among Maine's Top-10 colleges.

Maine Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy recently announced Steve Kautz as the first-ever recipient of the Maine Jump$tart Coalition Financial Educator of the Year Award. Kautz teaches math, business and personal finance at Wayneflete School in Portland.

Pantheon-Bourgeois Guitars LLC in Lewiston recently received the first Achievement Award from the Small Enterprise Growth Fund. The award recognized the company's outstanding productivity and revenue growth in the past year.

Poland Spring Water Co. recently announced that its trucking fleet was awarded the 2012 Maine Motor Transport Association Grand Champion Award. The award is the association's highest safety honor and is given annually to two carriers judged to have the most outstanding safety record and safety program.

DennyMike's Sauces & Seasonings in Westbrook recently announced that DennyMike's Carolina-Style earned first place in the Vinegar Spicy category and second place in the Vinegar Mild category at the recent Best of the Best BBQ Sauce Competition held in Georgia.
