Summit, MNG eye S. Maine natural gas pact

The two companies battling over natural gas service to Augusta and the Kennebec Valley have sent proposals to potential municipal clients in southern Maine as well.

The Forecaster reported that Maine Natural Gas and Summit Natural Gas of Maine have submitted natural gas service proposals to Cumberland, Falmouth and Yarmouth, responding to a request for proposals from Cumberland Town Manager Bill Shane on behalf of the three towns.

The three towns are exploring whether using natural gas will save the municipalities money over the oil-based systems municipal facilities use now.

The proposals would extend an existing pipeline, which runs through the western portion of Cumberland, to Yarmouth and Falmouth.
