In time for Earth Day, cafe set to open at Eartha's Yarmouth home

Courtesy/Fork Food Lab Toni Magno-Fish will offer patrons baked goods, soups and paninis at Magno Terra in Yarmouth.

A cafe named for its new base in Yarmouth will host a grand opening on Earth Day in the building that's home to Eartha, the titan-sized globe at 2 DeLorme Drive.

Magno Terra is being operated under the tutelage of Toni Magno-Fish, who joined Fork Food Lab’s shared kitchen in Portland in March 2021, and the news about the new cafe coincides with an April 14 announcement that Fork Food Lab is expanding to South Portland.

Fork Food Lab is also a nonprofit food business incubator and collaborated with Magno-Fish to make the cafe a reality.

Magno-Fish built up a loyal fanbase when she offered prepared meal services during the pandemic. The Portland native started small, selling meals to friends and, thanks to word of mouth, the orders doubled from the first week to the second and her business grew from there.

Magno Terra, which loosely translates to Great Earth Cafe, will offer baked goods such as muffins, cupcakes, cookies and loaves, along with paninis, soups, salads and deli items. Everything is either made in-house or locally sourced. Magno-Fish will be continuing her weekly meal service, with pickup options at the cafe and Fork Food Lab.

The cafe will begin with weekday-only hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and eventually include weekends. Custom catering options are also available for up to 20 people.

The grand opening will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, and offer tastings, giveaways and raffles. See more about the new cafe here.

Fork Food Lab is also in the process of expanding from its 72 Parris St. location in Portland to the first of two buildings at 95 and 97 Darling Ave. in South Portland.

Fork Food Lab is home to around 50 small food businesses, although that number is expected to at least double in the new space, according to the April 14 release. From caterers to food trucks, Fork provides entrepreneurs with workspace, equipment and resources. The organization works to dissolve common barriers and support the growth and development of sustainable Maine-based food businesses.
