Two Maine businesses were named to Inc. magazine’s prestigious new ranking, released Tuesday, of the fastest-growing private companies across the northeastern United States.

Origin Labs LLC, a Farmington-based manufacturer of apparel, fitness gear and nutritional supplements, ranks No. 35 on the list of over 100 companies from the nine states. Mast Landing Brewing Co., in Westbrook and Freeport, is No. 93.

Like the Inc. 5000, the regional rankings are based on each company’s revenue growth, as a percentage, over a three-year period. Companies must be private and independent, with a minimum starting revenue of $100,000. Inc. began the regional rankings in 2019, modeled after its national Inc. 5000 list, which first was published in 1982.

Origin, which reported three-year revenue growth of 433%, was founded in 2011 by Pete Roberts, a 2018 Mainebiz Next List honoree. As Mainebiz reported Tuesday, the company’s Jocko Fuel business recently received a $30 million investment from Goode Partners LLC, a New York private equity firm. Jocko has facilities in Jay, and in addition to the Farmington headquarters Origin has a plant in Wilton.

Mast Landing Brewing had revenue growth of 95%, according to the Inc. ranking. The company was launched in 2015 by Ian Dorsey, and operates a tasting room and production facility at 920 Main St., Westbrook. Last year, Mast Landing opened a second location at the Freeport Crossing shopping center in Freeport.

Among the 124 businesses in the Inc. ranking, a New York software company, Snappy, was No. 1 with revenue growth of 5,184%.

The companies had an average growth rate of 208%, and in 2020 alone added $2.7 billion to the Northeast region's economy.

"This year's Inc. 5000 Regional winners represent one of the most exceptional and exciting lists of America's off-the-charts growth companies,” says Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. “They're disruptors and job creators, and all delivered an outsize impact on the economy. Remember their names and follow their lead. These are the companies you'll be hearing about for years to come.”
