Irving scales back furloughs

Irving Forest Products is scaling back its scheduled temporary layoff of 190 workers at its Dixfield mill because the need is not as great as previously thought, according to the Sun Journal.

The St. John, N.B.-based company planned to lay off 190 workers for a week in late March, but now says it will only lay off 20 employees for that week, the paper reported. The company employs roughly 215 people at its Dixfield wood products mill, in Oxford County, which provides eastern white pine products for the housing and construction markets.
