The Augusta area’s first-ever brew festival has been added to Kennebec River Day events.
The Kennebec River Brewfest will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, and is sponsored by the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce.
This event will feature a variety of brewers, according to the chamber, and coincides with the Kennebec River Day and will be at the same location, in Mill Park, on Water Street. Tickets will be sold for the event.
“This event will have a great economic impact on the region, bringing people to experience the great things our region has to offer,” said Katie Doherty, president of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, in a news release.
Information on which brewers are taking part, or how many, was not immediately available.
The addition of the brewfest is the latest change to the festival that began more than four decades ago as the Whatever Race, which celebrated the cleaner river following passage of the Clean Water Act and the end to the log drives that clogged it every spring.
“The KV Chamber is continuing to transform its annual Kennebec River Day event to draw in more people from the region, the state of Maine, and beyond,” the news release said.
Other Kennebec River Day activities include food vendors, live music, lawn games and children’s activities.
