The Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce has named winners of three of its annual Kenney Awards and finalists for another three that will be picked live by the audience at its January banquet.

The annual banquet, which last year drew more than 900 attendees, will be held Jan. 24 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Robert Gordon, former executive director of United Way of Kennebec Valley, who retired this year after 33 years with the organization, was named the Peter G. Thompson Lifetime Achievement winner. Central Maine Pyrotechnics, of Hallowell, Large Business of the Year winner; and Zardus Art of Massage & Wellness Spa, of Gardiner, Small Business of the Year winner.

The winners of the three remaining categories — President’s Choice, Community Service, and Cynergy Young Professional — will be decided by the audience, via texting vote, after they watch videos about each finalist.

The finalists for the President’s Choice Award are Augusta Fuel Co., of Augusta; Cushnoc Brewing Co., of Augusta; and TRC Cos. Inc., of Augusta.

The finalists for the Community Service Award are Augusta Elks Lodge 964, Aveda Institute Maine, of Augusta; and Townsquare Media — Central Maine, of Augusta.

The finalists for the Cynergy Young Professional Award are Kaleb Pushard, director of marketing and public relations at Maine Isshinryu Karate Academies and owner of Skybox Holiday and Event Lighting; Peter Quigley, relationship manager at KeyBank, Water Street Augusta; and Natalie Tortorella, manager of the Study Hall.

"The finalists and winners represent hard work in both their professional and personal lives," said a chamber news release. "They hold a standard of ethics and genuine care for the community that the chamber is honored to recognize."

The chamber has been holding the live audience vote since 2016. Texting was chosen as the method because it's a quick way to provide real time results, said Caroline Saban, chamber marketing director. "As well as being a fun and interactive way of voting, where everyone in the audience feels included in the event and in award decision-making," she said.

The chamber has more than 700 business and organization members in 23 communities in Kennebec, Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties.
