Kepware Technologies, a company that develops software for automation communications, said Tuesday that it has opened its first overseas office, in Tokyo, Japan.
The Portland-based company sells in more than 100 countries through channel partners, but this is its first foreign office.
“With our Japan location, we will be able to interact more closely with both our customers and partners in the area, strengthening those relationships and supporting future growth," Kepware’s President Brett Austin said in a statement.
The company to a large degree has flown under the radar in Maine, as almost 50% of its revenue is from international sources, and less than 1% is from Maine, Austin told Mainebiz in a February 2014 article.
The Tokyo office is located at 8F Pacific Century Place in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo. It is being led by Liem Le, the international sales director for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa for Kepware.
The Tokyo office will focus on business development opportunities and building partner relationships, according to a company statement.
"Expanding Kepware's presence in global markets and delivering regionalized software solutions are major initiatives over the next few years,” Austin added.
Kepware and its Preferred Distributor in Japan, Kanto L-Engineering Co., were scheduled to hold a press conference in Tokyo Wednesday announcing the new location. KLEC promotes, distributes and supports all of Kepware’s software solutions.
Maine as a whole has taken a keener interest in Asia recently, looking to Asian markets to grow.
Gov. Paul LePage will lead a delegation of Maine businesses and educational institutions in a trade mission to Japan and China this October. The Maine International Trade Center is organizing the trip with the U.S. Commercial Service.
