Knack Factory, a commercial video and photo production firm, has opened a content production studio and creative co-working suites at 72 Auburn St., opposite the North Gate Shopping Center in Portland.
Kurt Graser, co-owner and senior producer, cites continued growth as a reason for the move.
“We have grown year after year, but last year was far and beyond our best. We wanted a studio that could handle the size of commercial shoots we typically take on, with clients both in state and out. And we like having a place where we can experiment with production,” he said.
With the firm’s move, it triples the space that of its previous offices at 24 Free St. in Portland. It takes over space occupied by the former Allspeed bike shop.
Knack Factory clients include Summer Infant, Allagash Brewing Co., Mexicali Blues and the Travis Mills Foundation and Evenflo.
While Knack Factory works with clients throughout the country, of its five staffers, four are graduates of Maine schools and colleges.
“We also liked the idea of having enough office space to share with those in our immediate creative community. Having both of these things is not a luxury we were afforded when we were based downtown,” says Alex Steed, co-owner and president.
Graser and Steed, who founded the company in 2012, have known each other for nearly two decades. In addition to their many commercial projects, they are the founding producers of the popular web series “Food Coma TV.” Along with Joe Ricchio, they will relaunch the series in June of this year.
