KVCC names new president

World Bank higher education specialist and Fulbright scholar Richard Hopper will take the reins at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield next spring.

The Maine Community College System Board of Trustees on Wednesday endorsed Hopper's nomination, according to a press release.

Hopper has served as a senior education specialist in the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia region and has held other positions internationally during a 13-year tenure.

Hopper holds a bachelor's degree from George Washington University, master's degrees from Webster and Harvard Universities and a doctorate in education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

The Westport Island resident is scheduled to assume his new post in April 2013, when Barbara Woodlee retires after 30 years as the college president.

Woodlee will continue to work part-time as an academic officer for the Maine Community College System.
