Lafayette Hotels, a family-owned and -operated group of Maine and New Hampshire hotels, has purchased a fifth property in Boothbay Harbor.
The Boothbay Register reported the company purchased Pier 1 in Boothbay Harbor, in a deal that was finalized Nov. 30. The property, which is mostly retail focused, includes Downeast Ice Cream Factory, McSeagull’s, Boothbay Harbor Marina, Mine Oyster, Mystic Mermaid, Windjammer Emporium and Cap’n Fish’s Boothbay Harbor Boat Trips. Ramsey Lafayette told the newspaper there are no major plans for redevelopment, but he envisions hosting pop-up events.
According to the Lafayette Hotels website, the group has 26 Maine hotels and resorts — plus, now, the Boothbay Harbor purchase — and four New Hampshire hotels and resorts. In Maine, the group owns properties in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit Beach, Wells Beach, Old Orchard Beach, Boothbay Harbor, Belfast, Bar Harbor, Portland, South Portland, Bangor, Augusta and Waterville. July blog posts announced the purchase of Breakwater Inn & Spa in Kennebunkport and Beach House Inn in Kennebunk.
In 2017, the group purchased the Lincolnville Lobster Pound at auction. The pound had closed after the previous season.
Pier One is home to the Boothbay Harbor Marina, the only marina in the center of downtown, according to its website. The marina has served boaters for over 28 years.
