Layoffs coming for Sykes workers

An unknown number of workers at Sykes Enterprises Inc. in Wilton will lose their jobs by the end of May.

Sykes, a Tampa-based customer service organization, would not say how many employees would be laid off from its telemarketing center in Wilton, according to the Sun Journal. But spokeswoman Andrea Burnett said market conditions require Sykes to increase or decrease its work force to meet the demand of its clients. The Wilton call center, located in the former G.H. Bass corporate offices, was opened in 1999 by ICT Group to serve insurance and financial clients. Sykes merged with ICT in 2010, according to the paper.

Sykes has 51,000 employees in 24 countries and 80 call centers around the world. Burnett would not say how many people work in Wilton.
