Lee opens China campus

Lee Academy's first campus in China opened its doors this week, just as its Maine campus attracted a record number of international students from Asia this academic year.

Classes for 15 Chinese students in grades one through six began last Tuesday at the Shenzhen American International School in southern China, according to the Bangor Daily News. The school, the first of seven planned satellite campuses in Asia, has an American principal and five American teachers. Lee officials hope to build the school's enrollment to 100 by the end of the year, Headmaster Bruce Lindberg told the paper.

At the academy's Maine campus, 65 of the 85 international students are from Asia, the highest number the school has had, according to Lindberg. For more on Lee Academy's overseas efforts, see "The fast road to China."
