Legal battle leads to foreclosure

A legal dispute between two blueberry processors in Washington County will end Thursday with the foreclosure sale of Guptill Farms' properties in four towns, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The sale of Guptill Farms property in Wesley, Crawford, Marshfield and Northfield, as well the company's processing plant and freezer in Wesley and 500 acres of blueberry land in Wesley and Crawford, is part of a final settlement between Guptill Farms and J/W Land, an affiliate of Jasper Wyman and Sons in Milbridge, the paper said.

In 2004, a bank began foreclosure proceedings on a $2.5 million loan to Guptill Farms that Wyman had guaranteed, and the case was in litigation until a judgment in favor of Wyman was entered in Washington County Superior Court on Sept. 7, according to the paper.
