Legislative Democrats seek to return a past secretary of state and attorney general to office in voting scheduled today for a slate of three nominees to fill the state's constitutional officer roles.
Democrats are seeking to supplant incumbent Attorney General William Schneider with the state's former top prosecutor, Janet Mills of Farmington, according to the Bangor Daily News. Mills served in that role from 2008 to 2010.
Democrats also are seeking to replace State Treasurer Bruce Poliquin with Neria Douglass of Auburn, who currently serves as state auditor.
Republican leaders have put up Poliquin and Schneider as nominees for their current posts.
For secretary of state, Democrats have nominated Matthew Dunlap, who served in that office from 2004 to 2010. Republicans have nominated assistant Senate Republican leader Debra Plowman, of Hampden, for that position.
On Tuesday, the paper reported, Democrats also selected Pola Buckley of Hallowell as state auditor.
