Leon Gorman steps down as board chairman

Leon Gorman, grandson of L.L.Bean founder Leon Leonwood Bean, has stepped down as chairman of the company's board after 45 years in various leadership roles at the Maine retailer.

The Bangor Daily News reported Shawn Gorman, a great-grandson of the company's founder, was elected as chairman of the board during the company's annual meeting Friday.

Leon Gorman had served as the company's president and CEO for over 33 years, prior to 2001. Chris McCormick succeeded Gorman as the first non-family chief executive. Leon Gorman will remain a member of the company's family-controlled board.

Shawn Gorman has worked at L.L. Bean for over 20 years, most recently as president of brand communications.
