LePage calls special session for $150M bond

As the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee prepares to vote today on a $150 million bond package, Gov. Paul LePage has called for the full Legislature to return to Augusta next week to vote on the borrowing plan.

The Associated Press reported the special session will take place Aug. 29. The compromise borrowing plan lawmakers will likely consider includes $100 million for transportation projects, which LePage proposed during the last legislative session, $35.5 million for education and $14 million for maintenance and renovations at the Maine Armory.

The AP reported the governor also expects lawmakers to address the threat that the state’s Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta could lose up to $20 million in federal funding after inspectors found county corrections officers improperly used stun guns and handcuffs to subdue patients.
