Gov. Paul LePage has nominated the temporary heads of the Department of Environmental Protection and the Bureau of Insurance to permanent posts.
LePage on Friday nominated DEP acting Commissioner Pattie Aho to permanent commissioner, according to a press release. Aho has been serving as interim commissioner since June, when she replaced previous acting Commissioner Jim Brooks, who took a job at Verso Paper Corp. Brooks stepped in to replace Commissioner Darryl Brown, who resigned in April over concerns about a conflict of interest. Aho, a former Pierce Atwood attorney, was previously serving as deputy commissioner.
In related news, LePage also nominated Bureau of Insurance acting Superintendent Eric Cioppa to become the permanent head of the department, the governor's office reported. Cioppa, a bureau employee since 1988, took the temporary post last spring after Mila Kofman resigned.
The Maine Senate will vote on both nominations Sept. 27.
