Argo Marketing Group, a Lewiston-based customer service and marketing firm, is expanding to central Maine with the purchase of a Pittsfield call center that closed this fall.
The company has acquired the former Global Contact Solutions call center in Pittsfield and will immediately hire 20 new employees, adding 30 more in the next two months, the Sun Journal reported. "Our expansion into the greater Pittsfield/Newport region will give a significant boost to the local economy by providing jobs while giving us additional capacity to continue leading in this important industry," said CEO Jason Levesque. Founded in 2003, Argo provides customer support for clients nationwide as well as telephone programming, cloud-based call routing and third-party telemarketing management.
GCS in October abruptly closed its doors, putting 65 employees out of work. George Simons, vice president of marketing for the North Carolina-based company, said the move was the result of the loss of work after a major client pulled its contract. The company handled inbound and outbound calls for financial institutions like AIG and Bank of America, and had opened the Pittsfield office in 2008.
