Lewiston hospital restructures, faces layoffs
St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston is expecting layoffs, though how many workers will be affected is uncertain.
The Sun Journal reported that 25 people would be laid off as St. Mary's Health System undergoes a restructuring, but a hospital spokesman told the paper that the number might change.
In a prepared statement, spokesman Lee Myles said the hospital's restructuring plan comes in response to federal health care reform, reductions in MaineCare reimbursements and $23 million that the state has owed the hospital for services dating back to 2009. The hospital employs more than 1,200.
