DECD hires new business development director

The state's top economic development agency has hired two new staff members, including a former staffer for outgoing U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe.

The state's Department of Economic and Community Development announced in a press release that Brian Whitney will join the agency as the director of the Office of Business Development and Innovation; Drew Morris, a public relations professional, will become the agency's new director of communications.

Whitney will oversee the governor's account executives, business development staffers who try to help businesses in the state. He served as director of outreach and economic development for Snowe from 2005 to 2012 before coming to the DECD.

Morris comes to the agency from a Denver public relations firm and a real estate development company he joined in 2011.
