A polymer manufacturing company in Lewiston has closed a deal with a prominent audio equipment manufacturer, Bose Corp., to make sound-damping headset components for the military.
In a news release, Polymer Laboratories and Solutions LLC said it will take over the Bose business in sound-attenuating polyurethane foam headset cushions, after licensing intellectual property and production rights for their use in military headset lines.
Terms of the deal were not announced.
Under the agreement, Poly Labs will begin immediately supporting Bose’s U.S., NATO and allied military customers with ear cushion replacement parts. Poly Labs will also offer ear cushions to original equipment manufacturers of military headset and helmet products to integrate into future military designs.
Poly Lab has produced military ear cushions for the Framingham, Mass., company for over 15 years. Poly Labs has a specialized production area for its military division.
The Lewiston manufacturer was established in 2020 when a group of Maine investors, led by Windham-based Anania & Associates, acquired the 88,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, equipment and intellectual property of plastic maker Jones & Vining.
The specialized formulations for the military are designed to provide comfort, protection and advanced acoustic properties for maximum sound attenuation, according to a news release.
The agreement allows for Poly Labs to streamline production and provide spare parts directly to customers around the world.
“This represents a significant growth opportunity for Poly Labs,” said Poly Labs CEO Sarah Morrison. “Not only do we get to support the current systems, but we are also eager to explore future designs as well.”
