Lincoln mill restarts paper machine after blast

Lincoln Paper and Tissue is recuperating from a recovery boiler explosion last week that caused the company to halt production of two paper machines.

The Bangor Daily News reported that one of the two paper machines affected by the blast resumed operation Friday at around 70% capacity and the company is prioritizing orders with its customers. So far, the explosion has not resulted in any layoffs, but mill CEO Keith Van Scotter said some workers have volunteered to take time off to help the company weather the repair period.

The company’s three tissue machines were restarted the day after the Nov. 2 explosion.

Addressing rumors about the explosion and its impact, Van Scotter has told his approximately 400 employees to be skeptical of anything they did not hear from him or co-owner John Wissmann.
